Would You Try the hCG Diet? (POLL)

The idea of losing a whopping 30 pounds in just one month is enough to provoke an excitement-induced heart attack. But at the same time, we’re a little skeptical about any weight loss drug or program that claims to help its users lose that much weight in a jiffy. The hCG diet definitely has its advocates and adversaries, so what is all the hype about?
While on the diet, users take drops or receive injections of the hCG pregnancy hormone (which suppresses appetite) and consume only 500 calories a day. A basic plan reported by the US News and World Report showed that New Beginnings Weight Loss Clinic in Florida offers either a 23-day plan for about $495 and a 40-day plan for about $595. Once completing the selected plan, the clinic suggests a six-week break where the client eats normally. This is done to avoid becoming immune to hCG. After the break, clients can go through another cycle.
Critics call it a crash diet and claim that the rapid weight loss is a result of the extreme calorie limit and not the hormones. After all, the 500-calorie limit goes well below the 1,200 calories per day that most nutritionists suggest you never go under. What’s more, the hormone may cause headaches, blood clots, leg cramps, temporary hair thinning, constipation and breast tenderness. The FDA also says that hCG is safe as an infertility treatment, but pairing it with an extremely low-calorie diet could have unexpected side effects.
Fans of the diet say that it’s the fastest way to lose weight. Even a few NewBeauty readers have tried the diet. Izc says, “Tried the hCG diet. It was fast working, and I immediately saw results. After 45 days, I lost 30 pounds! The problem with other diets is that it takes so long to see results so you get discouraged and stop.” And Kelly claims that hCG is hands down the best way to lose weight fast.
Since this diet seems so risky, we thought we’d ask you what you would do. Would you try the hCG diet? Tell us in the *comments and don’t forget to click on your answer in our survey below. Afterwards, you'll see what other readers answered too.
